I like the notion of dispassion. I don’t see it as meaning unfeeling or cold but being free of most strong emotions like fear or anger or even desire. It is cool and calm and unbiased and we have a whole nervous system devoted to bringing it on, the parasympathetic, the system that opposes the stress response. We all have it but many of us rarely hear from it. Enjoying some peace and quiet can allow for it and having some leisure time too. Wine and marijuana for some people can prove helpful, even a bit enlightening, but to be taken in moderation for sure. Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness reach out for dispassion too. And for the ancient and more modern stoics dispassion is the cornerstone of their philosophy.
